Sir4Sims
|
Sir4Sims appears to be off line. All we get at that URL now is a list of links to sites related to computer games; looks like something generated by Bravenet. Our original review follows, as it was in December 2001.
Large list of Sims links. Nice collection of poinsettias and other Christmas-themed goodies. We couldn't find a link to
the downloads area on the main page, so here it is.
You'll find lots of themed sets here, all with consistently high quality objects. Many items for Hot Date.
Available in both Italian and English. Looks like it's hosted on Bravenet.
Carla says, "The castle set! Gotta have it!"

SKINDEX
|
The SKINDEX has a large number of skins for The Sims, Freedom Force, and
the Unreal Tournament. Emphasis is on comic book characters, with some television
and movie characters in the mix. Also has walls and houses for The Sims.
Marvel Comics characters were removed in June 2003 in response to a request
from Marvel Comics.

Skins by Jill D
|
Jill has created a huge library of high-quality faces for your sims at
Skins by Jill D. Most of her skins are based on meshes by
Fionn, so you need to subscribe to Sim Freaks ($6.95 a month; beware
of recurring charges to your PayPal account or credit card) to get the meshes.
(Note that Fionn's meshes tend to be very large files that can slow down your
game, so you don't want to have too many of them in one household.)

Skin Shrinker
|
20 Mar 02: Skin Shrinker is a free utility for Macintosh users that converts skin files to be Mac-compatible. It does this
by shortening long filenames in the .skn and .cmx files and rewriting the files accordingly. (See
Caddy's essay about long filenames for more
information about fixing filenames.)
It only repairs the .cmx and .skn files. Those are the files that define the mesh (that is, the shape) of
the bodies of Sims characters. It will fix long filenames for the character files that come with some objects, too.
It does not do anything with .bmp (skin) files, but fortunately you can do this easily by hand by simply renaming them.
Skin Shrinker requires MacOS 8.6 or later with Carbonlib 1.1, and will run under OS-X.
It was programmed with REALBasic by Cherie Benoit.
Pasiphae says, "Carla insists that Skin Shrinker deserves my Livin' Luna badge because it represents the
free and open culture of Luna City, and that's good enough for me! I love this program!"
Caddy says, "And the web site design is one of the most elegant I've seen -- simple, straightforward,
and to the point while maintaining a graphically appealing layout."

Slacker's Sim Shack
|
Lots of recolored objects in primary colors.
Pasiphae says, "Dick Steffens found lots of Livin' Luna stuff at Slacker's Sim Shack!
His review of the site includes notes
and links to where the goodies lie. I didn't find any stuff that screams Luna,
but we should be able to paint metal any color we want."
Updated 14 Feb 2002. Corrected URL.

Slayer Sims (Buffy)
|
Appears to have been slain. For more information, see Dick Steffens's
notes.
Carla says, "Oh darn! I really like to watch century-old reruns of Buffy."

Sleepy Hollow Sims
|
Sleepy Hollow Sims has lots of spooky stuff as well as some items from the Victorian era when the Legend of Sleepy Hollow was written. Lots of spiderwebs; lots of gruesome green. Some horror, some goth.
Sleepy Hollow opened in January 2002 with a theme based on the famous Headless Horseman, only to be knocked off line by bandwidth blues and remote-linking thieves. Reopened on Simshost on August 17, 2002. Closed for a while about a year later, and reopened as an independent subscription site in early 2004.

Slink's Burrow Online
A.K.A. Dr. Slink's Burrow
|
Collection of technical information and some downloadable characters for The Sims. Offers a compendium of
skins showing an image of the character and the site where you can download it. If you find that your neighbors
can't seem to leave your lot and tend to starve to death out in the street, it's probably because you have
inadvertently deleted the invisible pedestrian portal. A similar car portal works for the car pool. You
can download replacements from Dr. Slink.
Carla says, "A scotsman in a miniskirt? I don't think so. But brick walls in scale are a great find."

Small Sims
|
We haven't reviewed Small Sims yet, but we will soon!
Recommended by Kate, webmistress of Parsimonious (page 7), so we know you'll like it!
Pop-up ads. Amusement: On the Mac, a little window pops up, complaining that "your browser isn't Win32-compatible" but the site works great anyhow. Works great on Windows XP, too.

SMN & Sim Snobs
|
After Latricia recieved a bill for $2000 for excess bandwidth use, she had to change SimSnobs to a pay
site in March 2002, asking $5 a month from subscribers. SimSnobs offers really magnificent work in all categories with an authentic
Victorian theme. Features truly outstanding work by Cheranna, of
Simdoodler.
(Simdooler is listed on page 9 of the Moon Sims links.)
Read the subscription procedures carefully. Subscriptions run from the 1st of the month, not from the day you send money, and you need to renew each month. No refunds.
Pasiphae says, "All that beautiful cloth and wood would cost a fortune on the moon! But that Victorian
brass elevator belongs in the grand lobby at the Luna City Hotel, and earns my Livin' Luna badge!"
Carla says, "Well let's find a way to fake it! I want that bathroom!"

Spanki's Skin Shack
|
HTTP 404 error; Does anyone know where this site is? Following is the original entry:
The home of Bodywarp from Keith "Spanki" Young. Also offers a collection of Spanki's
unique body meshes and some well-crafted skins to go on them. If you make custom skins, you
want Bodywarp.
The latest word we have is that Spanki is taking a breather from simsmania, but his web
site is still up and going strong. Some of his body-building projects are now located on
The Wage of Sim; which is currently off line. Spanki also
offers some unique female heads (which is why he originally wrote Bodywarp).
Caution: Background music.
Pasiphae says, "Thank you, Spanki! You saved me from looking like a groundhog!"

Statuesque Sims
|
Statuesque Sims appears to be gone from 0catch.com and we haven't heard back from webmaster Lady Matisha.
Is the site still alive somewhere?
"Statuesque" being another word for "voluptuous." Has some meshes for very curvy women and
one very muscular man. The unique filenaming convention, replacing one of the digits in the
body number with a "v", means the skins have to be renamed to make them compatible with
SimShow; however, you can view them with Sim-Poseium and they work in the game.
The filenames are not Mac-compatible, so Mac users will end up
fixing the filnames anyway.
A set of replacements for the game's default meshes is available. If you install these,
then your statuesque sims -- and all the other fat female characters -- will have their statuesque
shape when they change into their swimsuits and pajamas.

An eclectic selection of paintings executed with quite a flair for design and composition. Boldly patterned rugs to bring out the colors in your furniture. Mansions for your sims and a small collection of walls to decorate them, all from StealthiBear. Opened March 19, 2002 on Stormpages.

Steffan's Sims
|
Back on line at a new URL! Steffan's Sims offers reviews of the sundry versions of the game along with a document
on the cheat codes and some fun quizzes. There is a downloads area that has the feel of a chat board as well as
several pages of downloads with a unique navigation interface.
Navigation hint: When you go to the downloads areas,
you will see an invitation to "Please select an area" and a link to "by Steffan" below it. Click on the link to
to find the downloads. The site is set up to be expandable, and appears to be driven by a database. Don't miss
the "textures" area; these are replacement skins that change the appearance of some of the standard objects in
the game.

Steve's Skins 2000
|
Steve is back! He's at his own domain now, after a lengthy hiatus owing to the demise of The Sims Resource site hosting services.
Lots of clothing for adult characters and a nice collection of unique recolored objects. Emphasis on celebrity skins, especially females. There's special section just for Tomb Raider featuring skins of the outfits that Angelina Jolie wore in the Lara Croft movie. Some clearly marked adult content includes more revealing skins and a collection of naked ladies for the walls.
Furnishings include a collection of framed pictures of celebrities. The Mega Posters section has an impressive multiple-panel walls that combine to form large posters of scantily clad female celebrities and grafitti.
Note that the "Body Meshes" link in the main navigation menu downloads a zip file with the body meshes that Steve and Scott use. Hosted by Entanet in the UK.

you will find a collection of recolored easy chairs and some theatre seats. The site has
a special section that your adult sims will enjoy.

Sultry Earth's outstanding collection of skins for adult females, both heads and clothes, has been growing since at least 2002. Don't miss their "Themes" section for the furnishings.

Super Sims
|
Site is in both Russian and English. It uses windows-1251 encoding for the Cyrillic alphabet, so if you want
read the Russian make sure you have that character set installed and set your preferences (it's under View
in Netscape) accordingly. The English menu is on the right-hand side of the page. Apparently came on line
on August 1, 2001. Hosted on Boom.ru in Russia.
Carla says, "It's a long way from Luna City to Moscow, but if that's where I have to go to find fashions
like these, I'm making the trip! Zamina Ekaterina is a genius!"
Caddy says, "When I visited, the web server wasn't quite configured to handle the zip mime type,
so you might have to unzip the files manually. This works fine. Note that the Cyrllic encoding can change
the default font in your web browser; not a big deal, but it can be a surprise if you're not expecting it. It
should work OK to just close and restart your web browser to recover your default font."
Pasiphae says, "I'm just flat-out stunned by the quality of the work and its presentation. I didn't
find any Livin' Luna stuff, but everything on this site is enough to make me want to take a vacation on
Earth!"
Carla says, "The Green Valley bathroom! We can do that on Luna, and I want it!"

Sims characters illustrated with pictures from The Sims.

Suz4Sims
a.k.a. House of the Rising Sims
|
Original and recolored objects with a theme reminiscent of the Sixties hippie movement. Guest artists display brightly colored clothes in bright patterns. Features walls and floors by Mama Soul and skins by Litlgrlblue.
The artists seem to be caught up in TSO so new additions happen when they happen, but the site is still there and still rockin'! Last update was February 16, 2003; nothing new since then.
Caution: mild drug-related themes.

Sweet Nothings
|
Sweet Nothings has categories for skins for all types of characters.
The current emphasis is on adult females, with a variety of new faces based on Fionn's
meshes (which are imported into The Sims from Poser). Pay attention to the notes to
left of the previews; that's where you'll learn which version of The Sims you need for
that skin.

Swimmerz
|
Site disabled by Homestead. Our original review follows.
Several artists have joined their efforts to provide coordinating furniture and furnishings presented
in on one of elegant settings we've seen. Excellent server
reponse, too. When you get to the site, scroll down the page to find the links to the goodies. When we visited
only the sections for Living Room, Walls & Floors, Bathroom, and Paintings, Tapestries, & Rugs were active; but
it says here there's a huge update coming on May 1. The web counter started on April 21, 2002, and the first
entry in the guest book is the day before, so that's a clue!
The nautical theme for the site is carried through in one of the furniture sets.
Operates the Castaways forum on
EZBoard.

This site has been lost to the Homestead purges. Following is the original entry:

very interested themed walls. Hosted on Homestead.

Fascinating collection of sets such as the Heaven and Hell themes. More clothes for SimOne's Big Girls project.
Hosted on planeta.terra.com in Brazil.
Pasiphae says, "We do have a lot of Big Girls in the easy-living life in Luna City, but I don't
think that exactly counts as a Livin' Luna feature."

Offering the key cast from The Garden of Eden, complete with fig leaves! Offers several unique skins with
new meshes, including some big women and the "Simeon" apes. It's the first site we've seen that offers meshes
of very obese children. Catalog includes some very original walls, floors, and houses. Nice collection of
unique doors and windows. Many objects with very bright color schemes. Pages come up slowly, so max out your
patience motive before visiting.
While you can download most of the things for free, the site has started a program whereby those who
donate to the maintenance of the site are rewarded with special objects.
