Lunar Habitat Cooling Need Establishment
Preliminary thermal
analysis indicates that once we get the exploration base insulated
(radiation is the driver), we'll have more problems cooling the base, even
at night, than heating it. We don't plan to have the crew staying over
during the lunar night for the first few missions, so mostly it'll be
keep-alive power.
The cooling problem gets worse if we build large cities underground.
Our
long-range plans are starting to grow fields of radiators.
